The last band member I'm highlighting for the August 8th show at Muddy Creek Cafe at Old Salem is @kevinbeck__ on electric guitar. Kevin was a teenager just getting into playing guitar when I first met him. He's turned into an incredible young man and guitarist since then. What I love the most about his playing is that he always gives the song exactly what it needs - never less, never more. I will forever be grateful for his parts on the "Home" and "Family Man" EPs. Kevin was a member of the band for all of the full band shows we did at Muddy Creek in Bethania. Simply put, it's not The Usuals without Kevin on the electric guitar! The next band member I'm highlighting for the August 8th show at Muddy Creek Cafe at Old Salem is the incredibly talented Michael Kinchen on keys. I first started playing with Michael at Redeemer. He constantly pushed me and stretched me as a musician with his arrangements and chords. Where he really blew me away was the parts he played on the "Home" and "Family Man" records a few years ago. It was such a a gift to have him be a part of those songs. Due to the rescheduling of last year's show, Kinchen wasn't able to play with us. So, I am thrilled to have him back with The Usuals this year! You don't want to miss hearing him play, so get your tickets now before they're gone!!! Link in bio

On August 8th, I’ll be playing at Muddy Creek Cafe at Old Salem with a full band I affectionately call "The Usuals". This group of phenomenal musicians is anything but usual. I think they are some of the best musicians in our area, so I'm putting the spotlight on them this week. Today, I'm featuring my drummer, the very talented, Larry Carman. Larry is a local legend that I’ve been lucky enough to play music with for the better part of the last 13 years. He is a smooth player, and the signature train sound of his brush sticks on the snare was featured prominently on my “Home” EP. It is always an honor for me when Larry plays drums on my tunes, and August 8th will be no different. So, don’t wait! Get your tickets now!!! Link in bio!

On August 8th, I’ll be playing at Muddy Creek Cafe at Old Salem with the full band I affectionately call "The Usuals". This group of phenomenal musicians are anything but usual. I think they are some of the best musicians in our area, so I wanted to put the spotlight on them this week. First up, on the bass, we have John Ray. John is super talented, and he is the consummate professional. I have often said that he could easily be a session player in a big time studio. Whether it's electric bass, synth or the upright, he can do it all. His work on the upright on the "Home" and "Family Man" EP's was absolutely amazing. It is a true honor to share the stage with him and have him play my songs. And that's exactly what will happen on August 8th! Don’t wait! Get your tickets now!!! Link in bio

10 years today. The grief hit me like a brick wall yesterday. I don't know why, for sure, but I feel like it's the losses stacking up over the years with some really tough ones in the last year or so. The losses combined with all of the memories and milestones that she missed. And some happenings in life and in my heart that really had me wishing I could talk to her again
From the very beginning, I was more blessed than any single person could ever deserve. To be born to Wanda and Jimmy Newcomb was the best anyone could ever get. Mama was an incredible human being. She loved the Lord; she loved her family; she loved her friends, her church, her students, her neighbors. She loved. That's the best way I can describe it.
Tell the people you love that you love them. Then live it out in your actions. Make that phone call, write a letter, make a trip to pay a visit. None of us knows how much time we have left. Care about the people around you, whether they're a stranger or not. The world could use a lot more hearts like Mama's.
Until we meet again or Christ returns to make all things new, I love you, Mama, and I miss you now more than ever.
There's no good way to say goodbye,
No words that could wipe away the tears I've cried,
To let go of the ones we love,
When the time we have is never enough,
Even though I know what's on the other side,
There's no good way to say goodbye.
